SPHIRO™ T are pharmaceutical-grade spherical pellets containing tartaric acid as a functional core component.

Unlike conventional inert starter pellets, SPHIRO™ T are designed for formulations where an acidic microenvironment or pH modification forms part of the drug-delivery strategy.

The functional acid core can be used as a platform for active-ingredient layering followed by protective, functional or release-controlling coatings.

Research has demonstrated the use of tartaric-acid pellet cores for creating an acidic microenvironment and modifying the release behaviour of weakly basic drugs. However, the suitability and magnitude of the effect are formulation-dependent and should be established during development.
